5 Mindful Holiday Routines to Implement This Festive Season

And just like that, another year draws closer to its end. The festive season is once more upon us, bringing along its usual dose of magic and euphoria, as well as a healthy measure of stress.

For a lot of women, it’s hard not to feel overworked, over-scheduled, and over-shopped during this “most wonderful time of the year.” Therefore, it’s important to be intentional about your mental wellness and how you navigate work-life balance, even as you look forward to the joy of yuletide and carolling.

Keep reading for a few quick tips on exactly how to go about that.

Intentional Holiday Habits to Help You Self-Reflect, Stay Grounded, and Keep It Cute

1. Keep your weekly schedule flexible

You don’t have to accept every invitation that comes your way simply because your calendar is screaming “celebration!” Give yourself some breathing room by, (1) Figuring out what you need to, want to, and don’t have to attend, and (2) Setting your priorities accordingly.

When it comes down to it, wisely time management around the holidays is more about intention and less about perfection. No need to get burned out showing up for things that’ll waste your time and energy.

2. Anchor yourself with a small daily ritual

Ideally, this should be a simple but steady habit that opens you up to emotional clarity. Think going for a serene early morning walk, journaling in the lazy afternoon, or sipping tea as you soak in the sunset. Tiny rituals → big grounding.

3. Define your holiday budget (with some extra padding)

Overspending during the holidays is practically a tradition in this day and age. It’s also often wholly unnecessary. Start the month by setting a realistic budget for travel, gifts, outings and more, adding in a small buffer so you’re not blindsided when the inevitable urge to splurge arises.

4. Limit your tech time

This is more so relevant for those of us who work online (which at this point is probably most of us). Limiting screen time helps relax our overstimulated brains, preserve our energy, and restore equilibrium.

Use your phone’s digital wellbeing settings to set screen limits, then replace that time with more wholesome activities such as reading, guilt-free naps, cooking, baking, walking, and talking — IRL😉

5. Schedule a check-in with yourself

… an especially daunting task for those of us who’ve mastered the art of self-avoidance. But the more you do it, the less awkward it becomes. Simply schedule a 30-60 minute session every week or so to sit in silence and reflect on your values, strengths, weaknesses, wins, losses, and mistakes that turned into huge learning curves. It’s basically a free therapy session, except the only person you have to be brutally honest with is you.

This is also a perfect way to kickstart end-of-year reflection for women who want a deeper connection to their growth and goals.

The holiday season doesn’t always have to be chaotic. By implementing a few mindful routines, you’ll find yourself enjoying a calmer, clearer, and far more balanced experience.

Just like that.◾
